Project Objectives:
The primary goal of the project is to educate first responder leadership in the criticality of (1) embracing research and science as essential to securing and sustaining communities, (2) making a sustainable and measurable commitment to homeland security that goes beyond grants, projects, equipment acquisitions, and political expedience, and (3) building homeland security into the culture of first responders by linking it to the viability and sustainability of neighborhoods and communities. The project also plans to encourage the engagement and meaningful interaction between police, fire/EMS, public health, and emergency medicine and to finally disseminate findings and identified educational initiatives.
Project Summary & Planned Activities:
Specific activities will center on the conduct of focus group assessments; the development and implementation of national, state, and local educational agendas; and the distribution of research findings to first responders pertinent to collective preparedness and catastrophic event response.
