Project C2: Modeling and Simulation of Complex Interaction of BT Epidemiology, Behavior, and Economic Effects

Joshua Epstein, Ph.D.Dr. Joshua Epstein has the technical expertise necessary to be a principal investigator on a wide-ranging modeling project such as the Domain C project proposed for the PACER. He has taught mathematical and computational modeling at Princeton University and the Santa Fe Institute, where he is a member of the faculty. Additionally, Dr. Epstein has published in a wide variety of areas (epidemiology, political science, economics) using a wide range of analytical techniques (nonlinear dynamical systems, agent-based computational models).

Dr. Epstein also poses substantial managerial skills. He has been the principal investigator on multiple NSF Grants and other large, multi-disciplinary projects. He is currently the research director of the Global Epidemic Model (GEM) on the NIH MIDAS (Models of Infectious Disease Agent Study) Project, involving the coordination of Israeli, Russian, and American researchers from both the public and private sectors.

Finally, Dr. Epstein has been recognized as a national expert in modeling, testifying frequently before Senate and House Committees, and serving on projects within the National Academies of Science.
